An Infill Library in Dortmund West

2024/25

Near Westpark, an empty plot within a traditional perimeter block becomes the site for a private library. Two volumes, one small and one large, slide into the urban gap and join the neighbouring buildings. A floor to ceiling bookshelf thick enough to walk through becomes the central spatial idea: an inhabitable archive and atmospheric light filter. Each removed book opens a new sightline, making the interior dynamic and continually changing.
