A hint of coffee lingers in the air, the quiet tapping of a keyboard softly echoes against warm brick, and filtered daylight falls onto the table through the planted courtyard. Between heavy, monolithic brick volumes and a light steel structure, a place emerges where openness meets sheltered retreat. Inspired by Herman Hertzberger's idea of the space in between, the project becomes a fluid learning landscape: solid volumes contain the book collection, seminar rooms and services, while an open study space unfolds between them.

Material and construction

Brick defines the project from the monolithic masonry base to the perforated screen along the roof edge, creating a continuous exterior while filtering soft daylight into the interior.

The material narrative continues from floor to wall and roof line. Slender steel columns provide the architectural counterpoint, balancing tactile mass with structural lightness.
