Felseck

Visitor Centre in the Fichtel Mountains

2025

Deeply rooted in the Fichtel Mountains, Felseck creates an iconic anchor for the nature park. Inspired by structuralism, a honeycomb geometry forms the basis of a monolithic retreat crafted from local granite. Its massive facade conveys permanence, while natural light cuts through trapezoidal openings and reveals the raw stone walls. A spiralling path guides visitors through the exhibition spaces to green roof terraces overlooking the forest canopy.

Structure

A hexagonal timber ceiling forms a tent roof geometry that rises toward the centre of each room. Radial beams taper inward and act in compression, transferring forces to a solid timber core.

At the perimeter, a slender timber tie and continuous reinforced concrete ring beam create a self balancing structure with a distinct spatial centre.
